Dieter Deventer was born and raised in Munich. At the age of fourteen he made his first photographic experiences with his father´s Contax. In his own darkroom he experimented with various chemicals and solarizing effects. Still a schoolboy he engaged in surrealistic oil paintings. After high school his fascination with moving pictures began to blossom in earnest. His first films primarily documented the world of ski acrobatics in which Dieter Deventer was involved as a competitor. He started studying industrial management at Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and graduated as Master of Commerce. During and after his studies he realized his first films. For ´Sir Arthur Knatterski´and for ´Skidummies´ he was awarded first prize at the International Skiing Film Festival in New York. Dieter Deventer decided to take up a second course of study at the University of Television and Film in Munich, HFF. His student film ´Sorcerer´s Apprentice´ gained him first prize at the Festival of Fantastic Film in Munich. Since then Dieter Deventer has been working around the world as a director of photography for commercials and feature films. Within more than 25 years he has created hundreds of commercials for national and international trademarks such as Batida de Coco, Nike, Lufthansa, Bacardi, etc. He worked as a DOP on several short movies, television movies and feature films for the cinema, among them ´Vaya Con Dios´ by Zoltan Spirandelli starring Daniel Brühl, which was awarded three Bavarian Film Prizes. For the feature film FYNBOS by Harry Patramanis, Dieter Deventer got the Kodak Vision Award for Best Cinematography, Slamdance Film Festival 2013. Since 2004, parallel to his profession as a director of photography, Dieter Deventer has increasingly concentrated on photo projects of his own. There he works on documentary series as well as on abstract experimental photography. His  book-publications "ALI´S GARAGE" and "sotto l´autostrada" have been shortlisted at the German Photobook Award 2015.
